2011 Hyundai I10 Kappa 2 Review

Hyundai is one of the largest automobile companies in the world and is famous in India for making small and affordable cars. The company's first offering, the Santro was a massive hit and it still manages to sell in decent numbers. But the Korean automakers real volume car is the i10. The global compact was launched in 2007 and is manufactured at Hyundai's Chennai facility in India and exported worldwide. With the advent of new competitors who have been on a launch spree with a host of new small cars, the company had to give the i10 a much needed refresh.
Hyundai refreshed the i10 for 2011 and with more features including a bolder looking design, based on the Korean's firms new design language. But the aesthetics is not what sets the i10 apart from its predecessor. It is the update to the engine, which is now known as the Kappa 2. Featuring variable valve timing system, the i10 is now more responsive and frugal too. Quick to reach 0-60kmph, the Kappa 2 motor will ensure the i10 reaches 100kmph in less than 14 seconds and onto a top speed of 160kmph. What is more important though is that even with those performance figures, the Kappa 2 retains the most fuel efficient car in India tag, with ARAI certifying a 21kmpl fuel efficiency.

Fit and finish is top class with built quality remaining one of the best in the segment. Ride is little bouncy and handling is spot on. Engine response is quick and the i10 is well suited to handle the city run. The gearbox is one of the best and is butter smooth. Shifts can be made very quickly and the unique positioning of the gear knob on the dashboard remains intact, just like the old model.
The introduction of the new blue dials is a new Hyundai tradition with similar colours being present on its high end offerings including the i20 and Santa Fe. Yes it looks good but sometimes if you turn it to the highest brightness it can hurt the eye. But since you can adjust the brightness, you need not worry.
What we like the most about the new 2011 version of Hyundai's most selling car is how well the company has given it unique features for a small price hike. What we would have liked is a diesel engine, which would have made the i10 the most popular diesel hatchback in the country
