Honda Accord: A Brief History - Ideal Engines

In 1976 the Honda car company released its first version of the Honda Accord. The first generation was released as a three door hatch back model and ran from 1976 through 1981. The car itself was slightly larger than the Honda civic and was geared towards people who wanted a mid sized vehicle with good fuel economy. This was the first Japanese smaller vehicle equipped with features such as a tachometer, intermittent wipers, an am/fm radio and cloth seats as standard equipment.
In 1982 Honda released the second generation Accord. This generation ran from 1982-1985 and had a more modernized interior and exterior when compared to earlier models. Mechanically this version was very similar to earlier versions. The newest revisions included the use of shag carpet, new velour cabin trim along with chrome accents. For its time it was known as one of the most reliable engines on the planet.

The third generation of the Accord came in 1986 and ran till 1989. This generation saw a revamp of the exterior design taking key traits from the Honda Prelude like flip up headlamps, and a stylised rear tail light cluster design. This generation was the first to incorporate a double wishbone suspension in both the front and rear of the vehicle offering four wheel independent suspension which greatly improved stability and handling while driving.
The fourth generation of the Accord was brought into the line up in 1990 and ran until 1993. This generation was larger than previous offerings and incorporated interior and exterior design changes to make the vehicle look and feel sleeker than previous offerings.
The fifth generation of the Accord was released in 1994 and ran until 1997. The set of revisions for this model change included more rounded bumpers, modified front fascia and new signal lights in front and rear to give the vehicle a softer look and feel.
The sixth generation of the Accord was released in 1997 and ran till 2002. The Accord was now available in both standard models and new performance versions as well offering new engines, alloy wheels and an assortment of other additions to add flash and style to an otherwise subdued vehicle. Coming equipped as standard with ABS brakes, alarm systems, engine immobilizers and air conditioning.
The seventh generation of the Accord was released in 2003 and ran until 2007. The vehicle was made slightly larger than its previous offering and also included a stronger power plant to move the extra weight. The four door sedan was targeted at people who wanted comfort space and also performance which made it hugely successful.
The eight and final generation of the Accord was released in 2008 and is still in production now. With smooth sporty lines and dependable fuel efficient engines coupled with comfort and high end styling queues these vehicles are hard to beat. Honda seems to prove time and time again that good looks along with dependable performance is a winning combination.
